I never realised how frustrating Winblows is
When I brought my laptop almost two years ago, there want a lot of thought put into which operating system I would end up using on it. This has shot me in the foot. Not long ago I got rid of windows completely off my laptop, with intention of re installing windows in a much smaller partition, on the end of the drive so then I could use maple and my scanner If I even needed to. So after messing around with my partitions getting them setup the way I wanted them, I nervously booted in to the first restore disk that had come with my computer. After a good 10 minutes of sitting there and wondering what it was doing a screen came up and announced "setting up partitions". All that work was ruined, setting up Ubuntu, setting up the partitions. It had written the whole hard drive with a nice clean install on windows XP. Lesion learnt. Never trust a Microsoft product with important things, or anything for that matter.
In for the long nights getting things back to normal before I head up to Levin umpiring hockey.
It's been well documented
It's been well documented that Windows blows away the existing partitions. You want to partition/format, install a minimal install of Windows, modify the size of the partition using a decent partition editor and then install your other operating system and boot loader.
