Run Down on Todays Game

Well the day started with an average sleep suffering from a cold. But the sun was out and the morning got off to a good start with breakfast at 8:30 and a trip down to the turf at 11:00. I was down to umpire Wellington for the 4th time this week. Wellington were down to play North Harbour, with their loud mouth coach. This coach managed to be a right pain while third umpiring a North Harbour team earlier in the week.

So umpiring with Bruce the Auckland umpire, we got the game under way. Things were going smoothly until some sloppy tackling led to me giving a P.C. against Wellington for a sloppy tackle that was just plain stupid. I was happy with my decision and with very good team work happening, Bruce was happy too. While the Wellington players were making their way into the goal they made a lot noise. knowing I was more than likely to have a problem with the Harbour team at some point I was keen to jump on it very quickly. So that required me giving the Wellington captain a green card and it worked through out the game. Control measure worked.

A little later on in the game I made a call while standing in front of the Harbour bench. The coach started making some typical stupid remarks about my call so, green comes out with a message to the captain about the trash coming out of his mouth. So the play went on with me trying to fill my goal of getting my body language sorted out. With in a few minutes the coach just couldn't help him self so yellow goes the captain with a message of "tell your players and bench to shut-up".

Well the play went on and it went well in the second half. The team work between Bruce and I was amazing, even with the high intensity game. A personal offence by the captain of Harbour sent him to the umpires dug out. which was weird to have a winning team be slack and do something stupid. But then again that's what happens when you have a coach like theirs.

All and all, both Bruce and I really enjoyed the game and worked very well together. With very positive comments from the higher levels it was a pity that the cards had to be dished as much as they did.
